RACE 1 MOUNTAINEER PARK
LOOPY displayed early speed last time before fading out of contention. Katy Cheeks’ filly was trying a mile for the first time on that occasion and may be tough to stop now returned to 5f. NYMPHESA was not disgraced in third latest and enters calculations, while Creative Credit drops in class and completes the shortlist.
KING OF NEW YORK’s latest fourth in a stronger race over track and trip reads well in the context of this event and the veteran is fancied to land a ninth career success. STARLING’S LAW is better than he displayed on his return from a layoff and he may fly higher now. Romantic Channel, a narrow winner over a mile here in the fall, is interesting of those at likely longer odds.
WIN: KING OF NEW YORK
VALUE: STARLING’S LAW
Last-time-out maiden winners Kingston Time and April Entry are respected, but this may well lie between BEAUTIFUL B and NICOLE. The latter got the better of the argument, earning a silver medal, when the pair locked horns over 5f here earlier this month, but this evening’s extra two furlongs favour Michael Baird’s mare and she can turn the tables.
WIN: BEAUTIFUL B
Montana Guy brings a solid level of form to the table but looks more exposed than most of tonight’s opposition. Change From Within displayed early speed over 5f on his debut here last November but may not appreciate this extra furlong. Newcomer SWINGABIGSTICK appears interesting for Ted Lucas, but fellow debutant ANYTIMEALLTHETIME has impressed on the gallops and gets the nod.
SWEET LEAF has been running in deeper claimers that this one and has been found a good opportunity to supplement a victory gained at Tampa in March. QUEEN BOBBY got there late in the day when successful over 4 1/2f at Charles Town earlier this month and won’t mind stepping up to tonight’s distance. Last-time-out silver medallist Slowpoke makes most appeal from the remainder.
WIN: SWEET LEAF
VALUE: QUEEN BOBBY
SHACKLEFORDS STORM was not extended in scoring here at the beginning of this month and is difficult to oppose on that evidence. BRAHMS BREEZE looked composed in completing a double at Mahoning Valley back in March and rates a worthy foe, while hat-trick seeker I’m A Lawman is another to note.
WIN: SHACKLEFORDS STORM
VALUE: BRAHMS BREEZE
The veteran BEBOPALEON battled gamely to score over track and trip earlier this month and is difficult to get away from. APPEALING YANKEE rarely runs a bad race and is suggested as the danger. Elizabeth Nicole has generally been campaigned at a higher level of competition and cannot be dismissed on her first start since running unplaced at Belmont in September.
VALUE: APPEALING YANKEE
MR. CLASS is accustomed to keeping more exalted company and this appears a gilt-edged opportunity for him to shed his maiden tag at the ninth time of asking. Postimpressionist and Forceful One can usually be relied upon to give their running, but JUST DOING is less exposed and appeals as the chief danger to the selection.
WIN: MR. CLASS
VALUE: JUST DOING
