RACE 1: Greyville Racecourse
NAVAL SECRET hit third over track and trip on debut and on his second start should benefit from that form and course experience. If he can transfer the form to the synthetic he can score. LION’S HEAD also showed promise on debut when 3rd on this trip on the turf at Scottsville and enjoys a better barrier draw than the selection. Expect the two to fight it out.
Top Tip – NAVAL SECRET (5)
One to consider – LION’S HEAD (2)
RACE 2: Greyville Racecourse
PURPLE POWAHOUSE has been knocking at the door all year on the turf with placings of 3234 all over 6f. A return to poly where he was too green on debut can prove fruitful if he can put the experience to work. REX UNION gets a nod off a salvaged debut run where he overcame wide barrier and a poor start. He kicked into gear pleasingly when required but it was too late, still a 5th place on debut over this trip and track on the synthetic is a solid foundation for a well-bred colt.
Top Tip – PURPLE POWAHOUSE (5)
One to consider – REX UNION (4)
RACE 3: Greyville Racecourse
GAINSFORD only found one too good on debut at Scottsville over 6f. Such a pleasing start can set the pace for his career and he can score off that form. The main worry is the wide barrier 10 to contend with on polytrack debut. DISILLUSIONED did well when 4th on poly debut a fortnight ago off a wide draw. Today he is well-drawn in barrier 2 but has an extra 2f to contend with, he can score but needs to do better than his since past run over course and distance when 9th over turf.
Top Tip – GAINSFORD (10)
One to consider – DISILLUSIONED (2)
RACE 4: Greyville Racecourse
FOXY LADY has been remarkably inconsistent so she is very reluctantly tipped here. She has shown class on a couple of occasions but has also failed to fire when favourite. On her bow for the Prinsloo yard she can open an account if she can reprise her effort over this trip at Durbanville in September. Market will dictate how appealing she is. BOLD MOVE didn’t get up to much when 10th on track debut in March. She had a rest after and looks fit and strong off a silver effort over this trip on the turf at Scottsville. She should be better off today transferring that form onto the poly and an each-way chance should be taken.
Top Tip – FOXY LADY (1)
One to consider – BOLD MOVE (4)
RACE 5: Greyville Racecourse
SONJADOR was too green in both of his 2019 starts but came back this season with a much more focused attitude. 2nd over a similar trip on the turf here set the pace. When racing returned in June he jagged third here over 7f and 9f respectively. He can go one or two better with that kind of experience. TRACK ATTACK has jumped favourite in all 7 starts and has failed to reward the punters. His comeback run over the 7f on poly was far too short for him but might have dusted him off a bit. A chance can be taken on him today over the extended 9f.
Top Tip – SONJADOR (9)
One to consider – TRACK ATTACK (8)
RACE 6: Greyville Racecourse
RED EIGHT scored well as favourite on season return here over 6f. He hadn’t been seen on synthetic since 2017 and looks fairly treated with a 5lb rise and an extra furlong of run. SWAGGER JAGGER pulled 4th on season return from barrier 9 and now in the ideal barrier 1 can go a couple better.
Top Tip – RED EIGHT (6)
One to consider – SWAGGER JAGGER (1)
RACE 7: Greyville Racecourse
SEVENTH GEAR was not disgraced when 9th on season debut here on the turf. Immediately plunged into G2 company expectations were too high. He needed the run after a break and being gelded. He will be much fitter and should take well now back on poly. HUDOO MAGIC makes poly bow after some inconsistent runs on turf. At his best he looks dangerous and if some consistency can be established he can develop strongly.
Top Tip – SEVENTH GEAR (5)
One to consider – HUDOO MAGIC (4)
RACE 8: Greyville Racecourse
WINTER BLUES looks poised to open the 2020 account after finishing in the right half of the field in each start. Really ramped up the pressure when racing returned with back to back 4th over this trip on the turf at Scottsville. She looks poised to crack the podium or even get the gold if no one steps up to her challenge. PRINCE OF VENICE pulled up rusty on return in June in the same race as the selection. He managed 9th but has good poly form and has the talent to score here if fit.
Top Tip – WINTER BLUES (5)
One to consider – PRINCE OF VENICE (6)
RACE 9: Greyville Racecourse
MR MINISTER has been a few lengths out of contention when back to back 4th over two runs here on the poly. The first being over course and distance. She has a wide draw to overcome but a 2.5kg claim can really help her get back to earning. LEADING FAST makes poly bow with solid form over this trip off her last 2 runner up starts. She was 1 length too slow both times and is more than able to find the improvement needed to go one better, especially if she can get away quickly.
Top Tip – MR MINISTER (7)
One to consider – LEADING FAST (2)
