Welcome to our runner-by-runner preview of the 2021 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

 1 – ART POWER

Barrier: 8 Trainer: T D Easterby Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa

Finished 2020 season with solid 4th place efforts in Sprint Cup and Champions Sprint. Less than impressive in 6th on return at York in Duke of York Stakes. Needs to make marked improvement on that effort to be competitive here.

2 – DREAM OF DREAMS

Barrier: 3 Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute Jockey: Ryan Moore

Runner up in this back in 2019 and again in 2020. Leading claims as a C&D winner who has won well at this level before. Won readily at Listed level at Windsor last month and should be fighting fit with Ryan Moore back in the irons never a bad thing.

3 – SCRATCHED

4 – GARRUS

Barrier: 1 Trainer: C Hills Jockey: James Doyle

Smart type who was a good 2nd to the above, Dream of Dreams at Windsor. He was in receipt of weight from the winner that day which isn’t present today so will have to really work to find a similar finish.

5 – GLEN SHIEL

Barrier: 6 Trainer: Archie Watson Jockey: Hollie Doyle

1 from 1 over C&D when home in Champions Sprint Stakes at this level by a nose to cap off 2020. Shaped well on comeback run when 4th in Greenlands at the Curragh. Can’t be ruled out entirely but others look better.

6 – HAPPY POWER

Barrier: 7 Trainer: Andrew Balding Jockey: Oisin Murphy

Finished 2020 with a poor effort in 9th in Champions Sprint, solid 3rd at G2 level on return at Sandown before being well-beaten in 5th in the Lockinge. Another who can’t be ruled out, especially going down in trip but others make more appeal.

7 – NAHAARR

Barrier: 11 Trainer: Willie Haggas Jockey: Tom Marquand

Landed a gambit when winner of Ayr Gold Cup by ½ a length to finish 2020. 4th of 4 on season return but that was on AW at Chelmsford. Since a close 2nd by a neck in Duke of York. Has a lot of scope for improvement and is shaping up to be a very useful sprinter. Powerful connections and one of the main contenders.

8 – NAMOS

Barrier: 5 Trainer: D Moser Jockey: William Buick

Useful sort from Germany, career best effort came when 3rd in a French G3. Has a lot of scope but this is an enormous task. Look elsewhere.

9 – ROYAL COMMANDO

Barrier: 14 Trainer: C Hills Jockey: K Shoemark

Best to date came latest when making a winning return to earn black type at Doncaster in March. That form can be improved upon but he has to show he’s up to the task here.

11 – SUMMERGHAND

Barrier: 10 Trainer: D O’Meara Jockey: D Tudhope

Couple of good wins under his belt already this season including the G3 Abernant Stakes at Newmarket. Plenty to like about 4th in Duke of York. Should have plenty more to come but this is a massive up in task.

12 – VENTURA REBEL

Barrier: 12 Trainer: R A Fahey Jockey: P Hanagan

Proved useful from day dot winning a nice double including at 20/1 over 5f here. Toppled by a neck in Norfolk Stakes on hat-trick bid in 2019. Good 3rd in Commonwealth Cup here last year, finished season with a good G3 win at the Curragh before being plunged out of his depth in Duke of York on season return. Managed a good 5th at 50/1 and should handle a return to this track well. Can’t be ruled out, not the worst each-way bet.

13 – FINAL SONG

Barrier: 9 Trainer: S bin Suroor Jockey: Frankie Dettori

Good winner of the Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint at Meydan before being beaten into 2nd there when tried at this level in the Al Quoz Sprint. Couldn’t bring that standard back home when 9th in Duke of York. Could stage a revival, and Frankie Dettori is never to be underestimated.

14 – SONAIYLA

Barrier: 4 Trainer: P Twomey Jockey: W J Lee

Career best came 17 days back when ½ length winner of a G3 at the Curragh over this trip. Got off slowly and did excellent work to land the spoils. Superb spirits and is arriving on peak run but there’s a lot of improvement required to compete at Group 1 level.
